How much attention do you pay to cybersecurity? Do you always “watch your back,” or will you click on any link that entices you and rarely change your passwords? Honestly, I think we could all care a little more about our safety and security online. And if you haven’t given it much thought, now is the time to be vigilant, since some people are becoming increasingly desperate to cash in on others.
This is why I want to learn more about staying safe from various cyber threats. In my hunt for good cybersecurity advice, I came across an interesting video from the KaikoMedia channel. In this video, Ryan Montgomery, a founder of several enterprises and an expert on digital safety, shares 5 crucial tips on cybersecurity.
🔐 If you’re serious about leveling up your online safety, don’t miss our breakdown: 5 Brutal Cybersecurity Rules Everyone Should Know (According to a Pro).
1. Use a Password Manager
Passwords are my biggest weakness. Every platform is now asking to make passwords with letters, numbers, special signs, ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs (lol)… And I struggled enough when the passwords were much shorter and easier to remember!
Some people solve this issue by using the same password for everything, but don’t be one of those people. Instead, use a password manager that will help you create and store strong passwords.
2. Install an Antivirus Software for Cybersecurity
If you haven’t done it already, install antivirus software on your devices. If you need assistance with installation, you can consult cybersecurity experts who will recommend good antivirus programs or alternative solutions. Please do not use people from social media or website comments who claim to be cybersecurity or recovery experts (these are ALWAYS scams).
3. Get an RFID Blocking Wallet
Did you know some criminals could access your credit cards or ID documents by using specific radio frequencies? No, this is not something from Sci-Fi movies – it is happening to many people, and it could happen to you.
That’s why you should get an RFID-blocking wallet that will shield your cards and documents from these dangerous radio frequencies. You should also look into buying a key fob with an RFID shield for your car keys.
4. Stay Away From Shady Websites
Even if you’re told otherwise (that some shady-looking website is safe), be mindful of who’s telling you that. Some platforms—especially those aimed at younger users—have hidden risks. Practicing Cybersecurity— The Right Way
Finally, follow your instincts and stay alert. If something looks too good to be true, it’s probably neither good nor true. Avoid everything that could put you at risk of cyberattacks. Don’t open or reply to suspicious emails or text messages, and change your passwords once a year. Many people choose to do this on February 1 of every year, which is Change Your Password Day.
While cybersecurity’s not the most interesting thing you could be practicing while online, being well-versed will save you a huge headache. And possibly hundreds/thousands of dollars if you end up being a victim of a data breach.

Be aware, and stay safe!
