The world can be an unsafe place, especially for women. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t have to worry about our safety or read up on safety tips—which is a job in itself! With countless safety tips floating around online, it’s hard to choose which ones to follow. However, I have found an interesting YouTube Shorts video by @Spencer.Barbosa, and it gives some useful women’s safety tips that I haven’t seen before:
Safety Tips For Ridesharing
If you are using rideshare services, you are probably making this mistake. When you are waiting for your Uber to arrive, and you see a car that looks like it could be your ride, don’t ask the driver, “Are you the Uber?” You might approach someone who has bad intentions. This person could be posing as an Uber driver to attract people to their car for robberies or attacks.
And yes, unfortunately, this has happened in real life in a real Uber.
To avoid this pitfall, ask them, “Who are you here to pick up?” If they are your Uber driver, they will know your name. If they say some other name, thank them and walk away. This is a simple and polite interaction that can keep you safe from a predator.
Stop Digging For Things Inside Your Purse
How many times per day do you dig inside your purse, looking for keys, phone, lipstick, or any other thing you need? Guilty as charged – I do it more often than I’d like to admit. However, this habit is dangerous because it distracts you for a while and makes you an easy target.
When you’re digging in your purse, or looking for your phone, your head is down. You’re also in a state of distraction, and not paying attention to what—or who is around you. This makes it so easy for someone to hurt, rob, or grab you. And unfortunately, you will have little time to react since your mind is somewhere else.
Instead, take your keys out before you leave the building, and keep them in your hands, in your fist. This way, you can defend yourself with the force of your keys, if need be. Also, they will be right there to unlock your house door or car door.
Don’t worry about your phone or other “fun” items until you’re safe and sound.
Don’t Spend Too Much Time In Grocery Store Parking Lots
So, you have just finished grocery shopping and got into your car. Your hands are finally free from carrying all the groceries, so you use this moment to check your phone for texts or scroll socials. Stop doing that! A grocery store parking lot is the most common place where people get abducted, and that’s why you shouldn’t linger around it for too long. Get into your car and drive away; you can check your phone later.
Safety Tips to Avoid Common Mistakes We All Make
These three viral safety tips have one thing in common – they show how our common and harmless habits are big mistakes that could put us in danger. The main thing to remember when you’re out and about is to think before you act. Consider how you can approach a mundane situation safely. And always keep your head up—this way you will see danger while it lurks and not before it’s too late.

Be aware, and stay safe!
