Now first place… the most dangerous city in the U.S. is Detroit, Michigan.
Detroit has experienced economic setbacks, particularly in the automotive industry. The decline in jobs in this industry, the closing of businesses, and the outsourcing of employment in this sector have hit Detroit hard. Also, many neighborhoods are neglected and some buildings are dilapidated. This leads to apathy in a city, which can lead to higher crime rates.
Unfortunately, Detroit has ranked consistently when it comes to violent crimes and gang activity. Gang violence and drug-related crime statistics are high in this city. And although violent crime decreased in Detroit by 0.3% in 2023, property offenses have risen.
How Dangerous Cities Can Reduce Their Crime Rates
Cities that struggle with crime can reduce these crime rates by creating job opportunities, enhancing social services, revitalizing areas that have been neglected in the past, and having the support of the police while using community policing (Neighborhood Watch).
