Throughout history, people usually traveled only when they had a strong reason for it, and most people never left their village. It wasn’t until 200-300 years ago that travel became faster, more comfortable, and more accessible. That’s when people started traveling for fun and using travel safety devices.

Nowadays, travel is no longer considered a luxury. Even ordinary people can afford to travel. Maybe that somewhere is not a fancy resort on the French Riviera, but it’s still better than staying home and binge-watching some trashy TLC show!

Regardless of where you go, you need to keep safety in mind while you travel. Sure, the whole point of traveling is to have fun, but don’t leave your common sense at home. Think about your safety even when you are on vacation.

The best and easiest way to do it is by using travel safety devices that can increase your personal, digital, and luggage safety. There are also devices that will ensure you and your loved ones are staying healthy during your travels. Without further ado, let’s learn a bit more about these devices!

Travel Health and Hygiene Safety Devices

The last thing you want is to get sick or injured while traveling. You probably don’t even want to think about this happening to you, but you need to be prepared for the worst. This is why you should have a travel-specific first aid kit.

This kit should contain things such as bandages, gauze, medical tape, and tweezers in case of cuts. The kit should also contain fever and diarrhea medicines, hydrogen peroxide, anti-nausea medicine, painkillers, etc. Think about possible medical conditions and injuries that could happen to determine the best contents of your travel first-aid kit.

Clean drinking water is something that many people take for granted. You don’t want to risk drinking unsanitary water and exposing yourself to various pathogens and parasites. This is why you should always drink clean water with a portable water purifier.

UV sanitizers are another useful gadget you could use to ensure the cleanliness of your area. This device will help you sanitize various surfaces and decrease the chances of infectious diseases.

Personal Safety Devices

Another sad reality of traveling is that many shady people try to exploit clueless tourists. You surely don’t want to fall victim to their schemes, and there are ways to increase your safety.

For example, you can use a personal alarm device. If someone seemingly dangerous tries to approach you, you just push the button on this tiny device, and it will emit a loud noise. This loud noise will attract the attention to you of everyone nearby and deter the potential pickpocket/attacker.

You should also consider buying portable door locks and safety door stop alarms. The first device will make it impossible for someone to open the doors of your accommodation, even if they somehow get keys. You just need to install it between the door and the doorjamb and follow the instructions.

Safety door stop alarms offer you double protection. Apart from preventing intruders from opening the doors, these devices also emit loud noises that will make the intruders give up on entering your accommodation.

Luggage Safety

Lost or stolen luggage is one of the biggest fears for every traveler and for a good reason. Can you imagine coming to another state or foreign country without anything to wear? That’s why you need to protect your luggage during travel.

You first need to get a luggage lock so that no one can open your luggage without your consent. Some luggage comes with built-in locks, while others don’t, so you need to buy a separate lock for them. These locks either use keys or numerical combinations to keep your luggage zippers secured to each other.

You can also get a luggage tracker. These trackers are small devices usually based on Bluetooth or GPS. They emit signals that you can track on your smartphone, allowing you to see the location of your luggage at any given time.

Water Safety

If your destination involves a beach or pool, you need to stay safe when swimming. If you are not a good swimmer or don’t swim at all, you can still enjoy the water and stay safe with portable flotation devices.

We already mentioned water purifiers that you should use to ensure your drinking water is clean. However, you can also use these purifiers to purify your swimming water. Swimming in dirty water can be equally dangerous for your health as drinking it, so make sure to take a water purifier with you the next time you go for a swim.

Travel Safety Devices for Children

When children are involved, travel safety considerations become even more complex. Children are much more vulnerable to various dangers, and if you are traveling with children, you need to be especially cautious.

Until it happens to you, you won’t believe it, but it is easy to lose sight of your child, and that is one of the most traumatic experiences for any parent. Child locator devices can help you locate your child quickly.

Just attach one such device to your child’s clothing or place it in their backpack. In case you don’t see your child, just activate the receiver, and the device will emit a loud alarm that will help you locate your child in no time.

Also, if your children are still small, you should invest in portable car seats. They are lighter and more compact than usual car seats, which makes them perfect for installation in various vehicles.

Finally, keep your child safe even when it is sleeping. Not every hotel or Airbnb will have beds for small children. Travel bed rails will ensure your child sleeps safely without falling out of bed.

Digital Safety Devices for Travel

Having steady Internet access is one of the biggest challenges of traveling. That’s why people tend to connect to various Wi-Fi networks whenever possible, even though that’s not always the safest solution.

Connecting to public Wi-Fi networks can be dangerous because it makes your devices vulnerable to personal information theft. That’s why you should use a VPN that will encrypt your data and make it impossible for criminals to access your personal information. Simply download a VPN program or app for your devices and turn it on.

You can also try portable Wi-Fi hotspots, small devices that allow you to establish a secure Internet connection whenever you go. With these devices, you always have a secure connection without having to connect to shady networks.

We already talked about RFID-blocking wallets and bags in one of our previous articles. In short, our passports, credit cards, and other documents contain RFID tags. Someone who maliciously reads those RFID tags could steal our personal info. RFID-blocking wallets and bags are lined with metal, interfering with reading RFID tags and protecting your personal data.

Road Travel Safety Devices

If you plan to travel with your car, take some precautions before you start your trip. First of all, check if every part of your car is working properly and that there are no hidden issues. Check if you have enough fuel and engine oil.

Get yourself a dash cam. In case of an accident, it can provide useful evidence for the police. Also, you should use one of those tire pressure monitoring systems to make sure you don’t end up with a flat tire. When there is not enough pressure in your tires, you are more likely to lose control over your car.

Food Safety Devices

Trying new foods is one of the best parts of traveling. However, it also comes with certain possible dangers, such as food poisoning, that can ruin your whole travel experience and even endanger your life.

Fortunately, there are portable food and bottle sterilizers. These devices use UV-C rays or steam to kill bacteria and other pathogens. Some of these devices are specifically designed to sterilize baby bottles, which is particularly useful for people that are traveling with infants and toddlers.

If you have dietary restrictions due to food allergies, you should bring a few allergen testers. Use these testers to take samples of your food and see if they contain any allergens before you take your first bite.

Environmental Safety Devices

When it comes to staying in vacation rentals, there is another safety layer that not many people consider: environmental safety. There are invisible dangers in the very air that we breathe, so make sure to minimize them.

For example, you can never know whether your accommodation has functioning smoke detectors, so take a portable smoke detector on your next travel. This device will ensure that you get alarmed during even the smallest fire, which can save lives and prevent material damage.

Carbon monoxide is often dubbed as the silent killer. It is invisible, odorless, and tasteless, which makes it undetectable by our scents. It is also highly poisonous and, many times, deadly.

Carbon monoxide detectors can help you ensure that there is no carbon monoxide in the air you breathe. If carbon monoxide is detected, you will be alarmed, which will give you time to remove yourself from this extremely dangerous situation.

Safety Devices for Outdoor Adventures

If you enjoy outdoor activities, don’t forget to take some safety devices with you. You can never know what can happen out in the open, and these devices can help you stay safe even when faced with dangers.

GPS location tracking has made outdoor activities so much safer, and all modern phones have this feature. However, in the case of no cellular signal or a dead battery, your phone won’t help you much.

This is why handheld GPS navigators are your best friends. They are portable devices that don’t rely on cellular signals. Instead, they use satellites and can provide an accurate location. These devices can also come with bonus features, such as a compass, altimeter, and emergency SOS feature.

Also, you should get an emergency weather radio that will provide you with ongoing weather information and predictions. This way, you will be well-prepared for any type of weather.

Honestly, bears look extremely cute and cuddly. However, their appearance is deceiving, and they are among the deadliest land animals. Bear encounters aren’t uncommon in the wilderness. Most of the time, bears approach campers because of food.

Bear canisters are a great way to prevent bears from stealing your food. They are durable and resistant to sharp bear claws. When the bear sees that they can’t access your food, they will give up and look elsewhere.

Conclusion

There are many devices that can make travel much safer. Personal safety devices, luggage devices, water and food safety devices, road safety devices, digital safety devices, and many more! Each type addresses some potential dangers of traveling.

Choose those safety devices that make sense, ones that will be useful for you. Don’t rely solely on those devices; you’re not invincible just because you have a safety device…

While we all want to have fun when traveling, you should always prioritize safety. Hopefully, our tips will help you do it!
